Talisman: Marking our Journey
The hero’s journey is a powerful metaphor to understand the challenges one faces in life. At the end of this cycle the hero often receives a boon or elixir, representing the knowledge he has gained along his journey. This metaphor has been successfully used with the youth of Alchemy, helping to provide them with a greater sense of self and understanding of their value within culture. These profound experiences and transformations need markers, objects that can symbolize this journey of growth, knowledge, friendship and understanding.
The youth of Alchemy will create their own talisman as a symbol of their boon/elixir in their journey through the program. This imaginal object will then act as a touchstone to remember the essence of what they learned and experienced within their Alchemical growth.
